Concept of Conductive Education
As the frame of the program, the daily routine gives students a structure, a continuity and order for the activities. The program teaches to the motor disabled to carry out coordinated and integrated actions through comprehensive education and daily routines. It also teaches the participants how they can use and improve their skills to achieve their maximum abilities and take an active part in their life.
Task series provide the children with an opportunity to practice many physical skills which are broken down into smaller, more achievable parts and lead to the performance of other skills. For example, children learn to bend and extend their legs in a lying position which facilitates their ability to transfer between sitting and standing and ultimately take steps when walking. There are different types of task series, Lying, Sitting, Standing, Fine manipulation and Feet task series.
Motivation is very important for every child and plays a vital role in Conductive Education. For children, the best motivator is play. Music, rhymes, poems and different rhythmic beats are part of the children’s lives and an essential part of the program. Helps to focus their attention and makes the task series more interesting and comprehensive.
The group setting is the best learning environment for children. Most of the activities in Conductive Education (CE) are based on groups, while still focusing on individual needs.
One of the main principles of conductive Education is the use of the group as an educational tool.
Working in a group gives motivation, positive expectation and success so that the children enjoys on going practice of new meaningful skills, which are integrated into everyday living.
Grouping the students into small groups of 7 to 8 depends upon their abilities, interest or learning profile allowed them to concentrate and understand the key concepts better. The collaborative learning made significant benefits and decreased the shyness of the students.
Working with peers increased self-esteem and self-confidence.
In Conductive Education, the educational strategies, equipment and environmental factors that can assist the children in their learning area called facilitation. Facilitation must be progressive, never static and must be changed according to the child’s own individual needs, involvement and ability. This allows the child to take on increasing responsibility and independence for organizing their own body.
The facilitation must be at a very high standard through each task. The facilitation techniques must be reviewed and recorded regularly.
Conductive Education is practiced by conductor. The conductor is the holistically trained professional who leads the children through their learning. Responsible for planning and implementing the integrated educational programmes, developing the children physical, intellectual, social and emotional skills.
Rhythmical Intention is one of the methods of facilitation used in Conductive Education. It is an expression of interaction between two specific skills: language and movement. The aim of Rhythmical Intention is specifically designed to give children the opportunity to solve problems using their own movements. The children work on their own. The intention is set by the conductor describing the task. Children repeat the intention which helps them to vocalize, focus and concentrate on the action. Rhythmic Intention brings together speech, movements and actions.
