Conductive Education
“Conductive Education is not a treatment but a practicing
way of life orientated towards the development of the
human being as an active participant in society.“
Conductive Education is not a treatment or therapy and offers no cure. It is a system of special education for children and adults with motor disorders. Motor disorders are problems of controlling body movements due to certain conditions of the brain or spine.
It offers a structured learning environment where the child becomes an active participant in her own learning and thus learns to adapt and adjust to his natural and social environment.
The system provides combined rehabilitation and educational services to enable individuals who have significant disabilities to function more independently. This unique intervention for all age groups incorporates self-development, active learning, independence, problem solving and age appropriate social and academic skills.
Conductive Education is a developmental method to teach everyday life skills to children and adults with motor disabilities. It teaches the participants in the program how they can use and improve their skills to achieve their maximum abilities and take an active part in life. It is a lifestyle. Conductive Education covers all aspects of human development—physical, cognitive, communication, language, social and emotional. It is based on motivation.
The successful practice of Conductive Education relies on specialized professionals called ‘Conductors’. Conductors trained to focus on teaching the children and adults how to achieve rather than dealing with a problem as part of the condition. Every person has a potential to progress, thus the conductors are persistently looking for such opportunities. It is a Conductors responsibility to ensure that every individual meet with achievement. Initial professional training takes four years at the Andras Peto Institute for Conductive Education of the Motor Disabled & Conductors College in Budapest, Hungary.
